Carrots and radishes in the garden layout

I just noticed that carrots and radishes are in different areas in the
garden. I've read that it's good to sow them in the same place because
the radishes help to break up the soil for the carrots and then are
harvested in time to make room for carrot growth.

Opinions?

  1. Our book says that you should "broadcast" carrot seeds, but not radish seeds because radish seeds are more viable than carrot seeds. Can we do both (broadcast the carrot and place the radish seeds)?? I bet so.

  2. Yeah, I think we can do both. If no one objects, I'll plant both this weekend. I'll lay down the radish seeds first, then broadcast the carrots.

We'll have quite a bit of extra space for both radishes and carrots this way.

  3. I just call him Tweebie. He's a special gardening gnome who works in the garden, but he's invisible.
