Getting Wet

So I was out in the farm today and noticed that the beds were a bit dry. I watered them some but it led me to a few questions. Do we have a watering schedule/rotation? If so, when am I on it? How much and how often should we be watering each plant? I feel like I'll overwater or underwater if I don't have some guidance. Is there a time of day that we should water? What setting? Mist? Shower? Jet?

Also, a side note, I think something is a bit wrong with the new nozzle we have. I had to jiggle it a bit to get it to work right. At first I thought there was something weird with the water pressure but now I think it is the nozzle. I think it might be getting damaged when it is dropped after watering (just a conjecture). Anyway, I screwed in one piece tighter and it seems to work a bit better now. Anybody else have these problems or am I just inept at using a hose?

  1. i watered today.

where the seeds have yet to sprout, we are supposed to mist every afternoon, keeping the soil moist.

where the seeds have sprouted, i'm not positive how often to water. i assume we water when the soil is dry about an inch deep. maybe every other day. no need to be totally gentle, so the "shower" setting should work.

regarding schedule, since we still have seeds that haven't sprouted, we need everyday watering. i watered today and can do tomorrow. let's chat about this in person...

  2. After you chat in person will you write up what you decide, especially if there are days/times you'd like me to get my lazy self over there to help?

  3. In general it's better to water deeply (meaning, give the plants a lot of water) than frequently. The blueberries and artichokes need to be in moist soil, but NOT standing water. They probably shouldn't be watered more than once or twice a week depending on the weather. Also, we should put some kind of mulch (wood chips, straw, etc) around the artichokes and blueberries to keep the moisture in the soil.

As long as I'm on the subject of artichokes, they need to be fertilized with a high nitrogen fertilizer. Can someone fertilize them with the 15-15-15 this weekend?
